SAVE the LIBRARIES
We all need stories from time to time to carry us away!
below are three of the layers I drew to create this 2d/3d illo

giant robot

based on a fantastic robot my friends Ola and Romina gave me for my birthday (seen below)

coo coo ratatouille

I wanted to draw an image for IF based on this photo I took in 2007 in Hanoi. I thought it would fit the theme - alas I just wasn’t ‘fast’ enough.

On a happier note, I have a new Zoe and Dante illustration in the works. I’m almost done with the pencil work and will start inking tonight - so come back soon!
For now - I leave you with a quick sketch from my moleskin. BTW - the post title is a reference to David Mc Kean's wonderful graphic album ‘Cages’

still not a princess

Spent this weekend in the country - where I saw this little prince of a toad. Isn’t he just the bees’ knees?
Oh! And the new Zoe and Dante illustration should be up later today. I’m just finishing off the last strokes - wish me luck.

Strange wood - a true story

FRIDAY
There is a strange package in the mailbox. I’ve lost my mailbox key, so I have to carefully retrieve the regular post items with a barbeque tong (via the mail slot). Finally there's only the strange package left. It's too big to jimmy out via the mail slot, so I leave it in the mailbox. At this point though, I'm more than a bit curious - what could it be?
YESTERDAY
I get home, and the phone rings - It's one of the neighbors a few blocks down. He tells me a man has called him concerning my boyfriend’s cell, which has apparently been found at the local subway station. The man who found the phone called the last number dialed and got connected to my neighbor. The neighbor, who knows us from the co-op meetings, Googles our home number and calls me.

Long story long - this kind act leads to me leaving the mountain of work I was about to huddle under to go pick up my boyfriends phone.

I meet the man who found the phone at the subway access furthest from my flat, and after retrieving it, I find myself taking an unusual path home. It's here, I encounter a little girl quite obviously in distress. She's bawling “d ddaaddy!”

I ask her what's wrong, and she tells me she's lost her daddy. I ask her where she last saw him - She sniffs deeply and points, “Over there.”

“Well let’s go there and see” I say - We reach ‘over there’, and we're promptly located by a panic-stricken dad. I leave the happy reunion unnoticed, and continued homeward.

I stop at the video store/post office to pick up a letter I got a notice slip for this morning - Another strange package! Walking the last block home I rip open the package, and look inside - to my surprise, I find a little driftwood monster!
TODAY
Indeed a third little critter is sitting in our mailbox today. He's thinner than the others, and I'm able to slip him out the mail slot (yes, with a little help from my barbeque tongs). These overwhelmingly busy days have been lit up by this strange little mystery. Who is endowing us with woody beasts? And will another come tomorrow?

cherry blossom delirium

After two weeks in the cherry blossom delirium of Japan - I'm home, inspired, and giddy. So many new worlds for Dante and Zoe to explore, have been sewn in my imagination. I can hardly wait. We were there primarily to study architecture and I’ve got cityscapes on my mind - though this little photo is from Beppu. It was on the only wet day of the trip - Perfectly timed, to give my visit to the mud baths, the feel of having stepped into a scene from “spirited away”.

Rättvik...

I have been away at a cabin, with 7 lovely friends, just outside a picturesque town called Rättvik… above a photo of an old limestone burning plant we passed on route to Dalhalla (an amazing concert venue situated inside an old open mine). The mugs were locally made and are absolutely perfect for tea! Plus I picked up this tobacco tin at a flea market while waiting for the train home… going to bed now… but I’ll be doing the rounds of all my favorite blog haunts tomorrow so till then, take care!

house sitting...

We have been house sitting in the country for the past few days… posting is… difficult… but I am enjoying so much nature it’s worth it! hihi… will post some illos tomorrow till then here are some photos… the first is the fog rolling in the dale super early in the morning and the second is out by some old grave mounds from the 1100… now maintained by fluffy sheep! See you later… I’m going to bike down to the lake with some friends for a dip!

yesterday was midsummer...

will add more to this post tomorrow... I just got home from the country... dead tired...

...Had a gorgeous midsummer! The weather was adventurous, with sun showers and rainbows… I could not have asked for lovelier conditions! For the non Swedes reading this… midsummer here involves dressing a maypole with flowers and birch leaves and dancing silly little dances around it (for fertility, historically). I traditionally celebrate it in the country at this old farmhouse from the 1600… so rich in atmosphere! From the BBQ in the valley to the barn dance, and soccer under the midnight sun…
The country, by it’s nature, being the middle of nowhere… is not without it’s... mysteries… like why did someone dump a whole sack of potatoes near the bridge… no matter, we found good use for them… well at least my friend Karen did…

circus parade...

The circus was in town the other day… with horses and camels and “old school” wagons, at least on the outside… on the inside they looked rather modern… hehe… like many, as a kid, I dreamt of running away and joining the circus … I guess sometimes I still do, although not quite as naively… anyhow, all this inspired a little illo…

things my lens saw at lunch...

... as caught on a meterbox, I just photoshoped the details... rarr!

buds in Benhamra...

On weekends like these I am drawn out, away from my computer… an exodus from the city!
View over Vada dale… a former lake drained in the 1920’s and kept “open” by cattle… and one of my favorite retreats on earth.
Guns greenhouse… oooh! And she gave us more plants for the balcony! (Thanks!)

Whalecastle...(Valborg)....

Tomorrow is May Day… official day of protest I guess… in Europe. In Sweden on the day before, it’s Valborg. I do not know the history to this day but the general idea in the present is that huge bonfires are set (in designated areas) and everyone gets really drunk (except the dudes and dudettes keeping an eye on the fire). It’s really quite fun and laid back, and all ages are in on it… although most of the children do not intake alcohol…

Thought I would put up some photos I took last year… oh and will be able to post illos soon, as our new computer is almost in working order! Yay!

Cheers!

cranberry juice and sunshine...

The weather outside this week has been absolutely spring fabulous! I just had to take an hour off and go out and enjoy it. Brought out my paints and a glass of cranberry juice with ice… like a little slice of heaven!… wonderful break to this shitty week… but hey it’s a new week around the corner and we’ve ordered a new scanner!
Thanks to all who take the time to leave some words, always brightens my day!

weekend in the country...

I spent the weekend in the country… and my nose and cheeks are rosy from too much sun! I’ve been mostly taking pictures of odd bugs and flappy loud water foul during this quick getaway... But here is a quick sketch and some photo friendly beetles to boot in a new week!

is this the end...

Did some more filming the other day… we have no ambitions, not even more than a scribble of a storyline… hehe, but who cares when you are having this much fun!

Lori Nix, photographer

I found Lori Nix works while out blog surfing… it was love at first sight! She is a photographer with roots in Kansas but also strong ties to her apartment in an other state. The world comes to Lori via the models she builds. I have long been a fan of post apocalypse themes, and this is no exception.

She creates dioramas based on disasters real and fictive, then photographs them… the images are surreal not to mention beautiful. Truly a must see!

0401

At 0401 tonight there will be a total eclipse of the moon over Sweden… bit too foggy to see it but last time I got a great picture (seen above). My camera is not professional but I still think it’s pretty and I did catch some of the red glow!

model Photography

There are around a million architecture models lying around at home that need to be properly photographed. Some of them have been turned into lamps, some are displayed as pieces of art in my apartment… and one of them is making a sneak peek on my blog!

a slow day

Mostly did some coloring today but nothing got finished… I am working on two different pieces. The one is a colored version of the “children’s story” picture and the other is an old drawing I found… The picture is from a walk in the countryside just north of Stockholm.
